The sun finally came out on our last morning in Bar Harbor, so we headed for Cadillac Mountain to see the sights.
We saw this great waterfall on the way up the mountain. It was so beautiful!
Spring has officially arrived in Bar Harbor - the first cruise ship of the season came in on Friday morning. Can you see it in there between the islands?
Looking so posh in our sunglasses...

The Royal Wedding
We just finished watching the royal wedding and I loved every minute of it. I've been looking forward to this for weeks and I was so happy that we were on vacation when the wedding happened so I could watch the entire thing. Bob was very good to me and let me wake us both up at 4am and turn on the TV in our hotel room. He even got into it and enjoyed watching it!
They are a beautiful couple and it was lovely to see them so happy. Very fun!

Hulls Cove Beach
We continued our foggy tour of Mount Desert Island with a trip to the Hulls Cove Beach to look for sea glass.
I love this beach - it is one of my favorite spots on the island. Its a small beach, but the views are lovely, especially on a clear day (not to be confused with today when it was cloudy, grey and foggy).
It was incredibly windy today and we got blown around a lot, but it was still fun to poke around. We found some fun pieces of sea glass - mainly clear and brown, but I found a tiny piece of bright orange glass, and a tiny bright orange shell.
Bob is never happier then when he is poking around in tide polls, looking for crabs and mussels and anything else he can find. Nothing exciting today, but it was still fun to look.

Foggy Northeast Harbor
As any of you who have read this blog know, Bob and I love Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island. We've been numerous times in the last year and a half and we'll continue to visit whenever we can. To us it is the perfect place - a reasonable drive away (we love having that much time to listen to podcasts of This American Life), a place we know well so we don't have to be tourists and we can just relax, plus it is just a beautiful place!
My mom turns 60 on Saturday and we're all meeting at the Parkers' house at Hancock Point tomorrow to spend the weekend together. Bob and I decided to take advantage of our April vacation and come up here a few days early. We got a great deal at The Bar Harbor Grand Hotel and we've been enjoying Bar Harbor since we arrived yesterday afternoon. However, luckily our plans aren't dependent on the weather! It has been rainy, foggy and windy the last two days, which put a bit of a damper on some of our plans.
We decided that we wanted to take a boat ride, but we are a couple of weeks too early for the whale watches and other tourist boat rides out of Bar Harbor. So we drove to Northeast Harbor this morning, hoping to catch the mailboat out to the Cranberry Islands.
It got foggier and foggier as we got closer to Northeast and this is what we saw when we arrived.
Needless to say, there were no boats for us to catch anywhere, so we'll have to wait until we are back in August. The harbor was really beautiful in the fog though!

Happy Easter
I didn't take any pictures today, but we had a wonderful Easter. The Parkers joined us and it was so much fun! Five Nickersons (including spouse and girlfriend) + five Parkers (including spouse) = a perfect Easter celebration! We cooked massive amounts of yummy food, played with the dogs, and just enjoyed each others company. The Parkers are loaning us their home at Hancock Point with us this coming weekend as we celebrate Mom's 60th birthday, so it was nice to be able to share our home with them today. It was truly a lovely day!

Good Times
We spent this afternoon with the Phelps family and had a wonderful time. Nathan, Jennifer and the girls are visiting from NY and we got to meet their newest addition, Maddie. She is gorgeous and I loved snuggling her all afternoon. She has the most beautiful blue eyes and she fixed them on Bob the minute she woke up - he was a goner from that moment on!
Amanda, Damien and their kids were there as well and it was fun to see the cousins together. Here are the girls in their matching dresses - so cute! Evelyn, Nathan and Jennifer's oldest, is such a funny kid. She was going around the table at lunch naming everyone - Grandpa... Nana... Mommy... Daddy... Michelle... Man I don't know... She had never met Bob before and it was pretty hilarious to hear her refer to him that way! Too funny!!!
It was a great afternoon and so nice to see everyone. Amanda, Nathan and I have been friends forever and I love that our friendships are still so strong. And it is always wonderful to see Howard and Judi - they were my second parents growing up and I love them!

Hedding
We all spent this afternoon at Hedding getting the cottage cleaned out and opened up. It was fun to be together and we're all looking forward to being there this summer. It was VERY cold in the cottage, but we worked hard for a couple of hours.
Yes, we all piled into Mom's van and drove to Newmarket for pizza - one big, happy family! :)
The kids were so tired - Myley literally fell asleep with her eyes open before letting me hold her and falling asleep in my arms. So cute!

iPhone
I got a new iPhone this morning and have proceeded to be distracted by it ALL day. It's definitely a lot of fun and I'm glad I got it instead of a Blackberry. Here is my test to see how it works to do blog posts from my phone. More blog updates to come, I promise.
Oh, and here is the first photo from my new phone:

Portland
Bob and I decided that we desperately needed a night away after surviving the month of March. We booked our hotel, then realized that today is our 6 month anniversary of being married, so it seemed even better to be away to celebrate. Its been a great day - , Starbucks for the drive, listening to an incredible This American Life on NPR, yummy lunch at Grittys in Freeport, shopping for kayak stuff at LLBean, buying a great pink raincoat on sale at The North Face, and now relaxing in a hotel room with a great view of the bay in Portland.

April 1 = Snow Day??
We survived the crazy month of March and are happily enjoying a bit of a breather before things get busy again closer to the end of the school year. There is still plenty going on at school, but it all feels much easier and calmer than those few insane weeks in March.
The weather played a bit of an April Fools Day joke on us today - they were predicting 6-12 inches of snow, so hundreds of schools in NH, including Bow, canceled for today. Don't get me wrong, we were very happy to wake up at 5:30 this morning and get the news that we didn't need to go to school. But we only got a couple of inches of snow in Concord and the roads were completely clear and it had started to rain by noon! I was planning on taking a "mental health" day today anyway, but it was nice to have Bob home too. We'll never say no to a three day weekend! On the flip side, our last day of school is now June 24, which is pretty painful, but we'll deal...
We're going away to Portland, Maine for tomorrow night, so stay tuned for some photos and an update when we get back. We're looking forward to a change of scenery, even just for 24 hours!
