Rainy Day Road Trip

We love to go on road trips and decided we would take one today, despite the rain. We usually go north or to the coast, but I wanted to take Bob to Sunapee and show him where I used to live.

We drove around the lake and found this beautiful Episcopal church. I love it!! Its obviously only open in the summer, hence the boarded up windows, but I bet there is beautiful stained glass under those boards.

We drove across Route 11 and ended up in Potter Place. I love the old train station in Potter Place. Donald Hall writes about taking the train from North Station to Potter Place, where his grandfather would pick him up in the old horse and buggy and drive him the couple of miles to his grandparents farm in Danbury, where Donald Hall now lives.

It was very rainy, but we still had a great road trip. And we found some new places we want to go back to when it is sunny. Stay tuned for more road trips throughout the summer!

The Perfect Day, Part One

We had an absolutely perfect day on Saturday, truly one of the very best we've ever had and we have a pretty wonderful life every day, so trust me, this one was big!

Our perfect day started out with our first use of our new kayaks!! It was beautiful when we woke up on Saturday morning and we decided it was time to break in the kayaks. But first we needed to finish putting the kayak rack on the car. We had started last weekend, but didn't quite get it finished. And we had never tried to attach the kayaks to the rack, so we knew it might take a little while to get the hang of it.

It ended up being a long, adventurous morning with the rack, but by 10am we were finally ready to go and we now know how to attach the kayaks with relative ease and speed. And I'm sure we'll get faster as the summer progresses. Here is our car sporting the lovely kayaks and rack:

We've been looking forward to kayaking at Lougee Pond ever since Bob first took me there last spring, so it was wonderful to finally get out there and kayak!

It was absolutely beautiful at Lougee and we loved being out on the water.

We kayaked all around the pond and found these turtles sunning themselves on a log in the cove. They weren't super impressed to see us, but this one stuck around long enough for me to take some pictures.

We're looking forward to a long, wonderful summer of kayaking at Lougee Pond. We love our kayaks and are so happy that we got them. Bring on the summer!!

The Perfect Day, Part Two

The second part of our perfect day actually started on Friday morning when I received the following email (if you click on the picture, you'll be able to see the whole thing clearly):

I'll admit that I didn't believe it was true at first. I spent all of Friday afternoon checking to make sure that this woman who emailed me actually worked for the Celtics. I, of course, emailed her back and told her I would take the tickets and I heard back from her saying that the tickets would be left at the Will Call window at the Garden.

Bob and I drove down to Boston on Saturday afternoon, hoping that we wouldn't be disappointed when we arrived. We walked up to the Will Call window and... there were tickets left in my name!

We spent the entire night in shock that we were actually in the Garden, watching the Celtics. We had great seats, as you can see.

And it was an incredible game! The Celtics were playing the Heat and they came into this game down 2 games in the series. The energy in the Garden was great and the Celtics played an amazing game. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were on fire, Shaq played for over 8 minutes, and we watched Rajon Rondo come back from a dislocated elbow and play the end of the game with incredible grit and heart.

It was an amazing night and we felt so lucky to be at the game. I've always wanted to see the Celtics live and Bob and I have watched nearly every game this season, always saying how much we would love to see them. I entered the sweepstakes on a whim and I'm still shocked I actually one. It was so surreal to be at the game, but a night we'll never forget.

Hancock Point, part 1

Our lovely friends, the Parkers, were generous enough to loan us their house at Hancock Point for the weekend so we could all be together and celebrate Mom's 60th birthday. Hancock Point is truly one of the most beautiful places I've ever been and it was wonderful to be there.

I took a ton of photos over the course of the weekend, but I've tried to limit it to my favorites over the next couple of posts.

This beach is directly across the street from the Parker's house - they share it with the cottage next to them, so it is essentially their private beach. We spent the majority of our weekend down at the beach, looking for seaglass and shells and just enjoying the sunshine.

The views from the beach are incredibly iconic Maine views - gorgeous everywhere you look!

Myley is a huge fan of Bob and it was fun to watch them interact all weekend. She calls him "my Bob" and just thinks he's great. And he is pretty madly in love with her too.

Hancock Point, part 2

I LOVE this photo! Two of my favorite people! :)

We (meaning everyone except me and the kids) had lobster on Friday night for Mom's birthday. Myley wanted to see lobsters but was not interested in eating them at all.

My wonderful family! Logan was really sick all weekend, hence the lack of photos of him. Marc is holding him in this photo, but he really felt lousy the whole time. Poor kid!

The view from the porch of the Parker's house. Their family owns the grey cottage in front as well, but it isn't a year round house and was still pretty chilly, so we stayed in the Parker's newer, year round house.

Our home for the weekend. Isn't it beautiful? Thank you to the Parkers for generously loaning us their beautiful house!!
